Call 9-11, Somebody's in a Food coma

This winter break has not been as relaxing as I'd imagine. I'm in the process of getting a new car and the whole entire ordeal is so much work! So what can possibly calm me down when I'm stressed? FOOD! I was craving A&J's like crazy. They serve the most authentic Schezuan style food in the DMV area. So I bundled up, headed to my bank to sign some paperwork. Then I rushed to A&J's for some delicious food!

The mug I rocked. I look so tired, and that's because I am. I had to work yesterday since 90% of my department took off this week. So it was just me and the microscope all day long yesterday. It can be be so energy-draining when it's just you working by yourself on Chromosome Analysis cases for 8 hours straight all day, everyday!

I dabbed a little of MAC's "Cyber" lipstick on top of my lips just so I could get berry-quenched lips. I don't normally do dark lips because I don't like my lips so much. But today was pretty much whatever goes, since I didn't feel so swell.

After hitting up Chinatown in Philadelphia a couple days ago, I'm hooked on chrysanthemum tea!! I normally steer clear of tea because I don't like it to stain my teeth. But it's so warm and soothing to drink in the harsh, cold winter.

I always order this Spicy Garlic Cucumber side dish when I go here. It's delicious! I love cucumbers and pickled vegetables in general.

And of course! Gotta have wontons when you go to a Chinese restaurant. But this just ain't any ordinary wonton soup. It's a spicy (you notice a pattern by now? I love ANYTHING spicy!!) Schezuan-style wonton soup. No noodles, since I hate noodles with my wontons. But absolutely mind-fuckingly awesome!!

And this is what basically put me in a food coma. Straight up peanut oil sauce!! I shudder to think of how many calories makes up this dish. But this is my FAVORITEST dish by far at A&J's!!! It's the spicy (!) peanut sauce noodle dish. *licks lips*

Damn, today's been so chill for me. Definitely no complaints here. Hope everyone is eating good, as well!

The Philly cheesesteak war

PHILLY, show me love! That, you did! Went to the City of Brotherly Love yesterday and it did not disappoint. Ate so much, I gotta hit up the gym HARD tonight. *rubs belly* Soooo...while in Rome, do as the Romans do. And we did. As you all know, there's been an AGE-OLD rivalry between the famous Philly cheese-steak eateries of Pat's vs. Geno's. Since they were literally right across from one another, we decided to do our very own "taste" test.

It was cold as shit, so eating the cheesesteak sandwiches proved to be quite a challenge. Hahaha, look at the lady in the back with her face covered in her scarf. Damn, that just shows how FREEZING it was last night.

First stop was at Pat's. The line here wasn't quite as long as over at Geno's, but we figured...fair is fair. We had to test it out at Pat's first without making any pre-determined judgments (even though there looked like to be quite a party across the street at Geno's!)

The line was still long enough at Pat's. Can't say they're hurtin' when it comes to business. There was a sign to help out any noobs who happened to be in the neighborhood ( Of course, I just listened to the locals order ahead in line of me. I figured who would know what to order there better than the locals, right?
Ordering actually was a fast process. They had a little assembly line of workers inside make it as the orders were being placed. So I got my cheesesteak within 3 minutes!

And lo and behold! Ooooie, gooey, cheesy goodness! This shit looked so fucking good, I almost tripped over myself walking to get a table to sit down and eat. Upon first was a bit anti-climatic. Looks can definitely be deceiving. This looked better than it ACTUALLY tasted. *sad face* The bread was too doughy, the meat was hanging every-which-way, and the cheese really overpowered the meat. :(

We just gorged ourselves with the sandwich as much (and as best we can, it proved to be a messy venture). I ended up throwing half of my sandwich away. I couldn't subject myself to anymore of this shit, when Geno's was across the street---beckoning me to join him in Cheesesteak Heaven (dude died this year, R.I.P)

And damn, you can't see it, but these neon lights were flashin' like a strobe party. It really reminded me of something you'd see in Vegas. If Pat's looked like the uncle you have who always wore too-short jeans with a dirty-stained t-shirt, then Geno's must be the uncle who tried to be cool by wearing Adidas trackpants with a fake gold chain around his neck. There really is no comparison in terms of taste. I don't know why "foodie" tv shows try to put these two side-by-side in comparison. It's like comparing apples and oranges? Geno's wins hands down!

It wouldn't look like Geno's had the better tasting cheesesteak just based on looks alone, would it? It looks kinda wimpy and dried out. But I actually like my bread a bit "tougher" and chewier to eat. The meat here is much better, as well. I bought 6 sandwiches at Geno's for $60! Overall, we spent $100 for cheesesteaks between both places last night. Hahaha, now can you see what I mean when I say we really need to hit the gym?

My only tiff with Geno's is that the workers there are outrightedly racist. It's fucking 2011 and for me to have to see this shit hanging in the window as I'm placing an order really didn't make me think highly of its owner (dead or not).

The owner, Joey Vento, may be dead, but his sign still hangs. The lady at the window didn't even listen to my friend as she was placing her order for a cheesesteak WITH onions. As a matter of fact, once my friend (whose half-white/half-Korean) stepped up to the window...the lady had the nerve to PULL the sliding window closed so that only 2 inches remained for my friend to YELL her order inside the window. How fucking rude is that??? And then while we were waiting for our orders, this Korean lady walked up to the lady at the register (same one) to ask if she could please cut her cheesesteak sandwich into "fours" so that her little children may be able to eat it easier, and the lady was like, "Huh!!!!! WHAT'D YOU SAY??!!!" Welllll, you dumb bitch! Maybe if you didn't slide the window close every time a non-white customer tried to talk to you, you could hear better!! Seriously, I have no tolerance for racism so I was getting riled up. I can't even believe this sometimes when I see signs like that. I'm conflicted. While I love the cheesesteak here, not sure if I'd want to support an establishment that is so ignorant so as to put themselves out like that. ::  Anyway, end rant for the day  ::

Anyway, just be forewarned that if you are coming to this part of Philly...PARKING WILL BE A BITCH. Actually, scratch that. Parking ANYWHERE in Philly is a bitch. We were lucky enough to find great parking right in front of Pat's. But as we were parking Sarah's car, we noticed this sign right alongside the curb. At first, we thought it was real. So we were prepared to back out and go find parking somewhere else. Then we laughed out loud because it was obvi just a funny sign! But thought it was real cute :)

Long hurr don't care...but actually, I kinda do

Anyway, I'm feelin' muuuch better now. Lol, I guess my past entry had just been "one of 'em days". I'm sure you girls know what I'm talkin' about. Wow, I can get so moody sometimes. But everything's cool beans now :-)

I just wanted to talk about one of the Best Hair Straighteners that I was able to test out from Missiko (just look at their name popped up on Google Search engine. The company has 297 reviews and a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. It's a legit company!). It is the HANA Pro 1" Flat Iron.  I gotta be frank here. I was a little hesitant at first to do any review because I didn't want to be sent a product and have to be disappointed and then have to do a review or send it back (waste of my time and theirs). And you guys know I ONLY state my honest opinion. Remember that rant I had about Cutesy Girl a year or two ago. Hahahaha, those bitches went out of business. I called it with their crappy, bullshit customer service

Anyway, back to point. Luckily, I'm IN LOVE with this straightener. I used the straightener to "curl" my hair, and it's been super quick and easy for me in the mornings now. I literally save 20 minutes in doing my hair, which equals more Zzz's. I figured since it was a CHI Flat Iron, this would be like the "Michael Jordan" of flattening irons and I was right!

This was the package that my iron was sent in:

How cute and neatly packaged, right? First impressions are everything, as we know.

So nice of them to throw in some extra goodies. Everything is extremely practical and is what I use. It's like they read my mind, lol.

The HANA Shine Shield is simply amazing! I looooove to put this on my hair before I curl it with the flattening iron. It smells so amazing. I actually am going to order a bigger version of this. It does not leave the hair greasy, whatsoever (which is my biggest peeve when it comes to heat-protecting sprays/serums).

*  The iron itself is quite petite in size, so it doesn't give you any hand "muscle spasms" when you use it for longer than a few minutes

*  Has adjustable heat settings, particularly useful when you're trying to determine how big or small you'd like your curls to be if you're going to try curling your hair with the flattening iron like me

*  Comes in its very own storage pouch so you don't have to worry about it collecting dust or getting dirty, should you not use it on a daily basis

*  It had a funny smell upon the first time of using it as the flattening iron was warming up, but it dissipated once I used it

*  The swivel cord can be annoying at times. But that's most likely since I'm twisting and turning the iron to curl my hair. To straighten hair, it shouldn't be a problem.

I seriously would recommend this straightening iron to you guys! It's a high-quality product that leaves your hair morning routine short, simple, and hot enough for your hairstyle to last throughout the day. We don't want any flat, dull looking hair now, do we ladies? ;-)

FTC Disclaimer: I was sent this product to review from Missiko. However, all opinions stated are solely that of my own and I was not compensated monetarily in any way.

Was going through some old photos today...and it made me sad. I can't believe I used to starve myself because I thought I was too fat. Guess I'm in a reflective mood much emphasis does society place on the exterior? Too much. They did a study a few years back measuring the level of happiness and security that women felt with themselves and it was found that Asian countries and the U.S. scored the lowest. Meanwhile, South American and African nations scored much, much higher. You can't tell but I'm miserable in all of these pictures.

I barely ate, kept a Caloric Intake log book, and just had such negative thoughts toward food. I wish I can say that I've come a long ways since day. Some days are better than others. I struggle. But I hope and pray to God that I'm not the only one who has a monster that I'm always battling. God, what a trip down Memory Lane....Winter always puts me in such a funk.

[edit] Just read a couple entries back on my posts, I still do agree with my belief that life is too short and you just have to be grateful for everything you've got. I hope no one thinks I'm bitchin' about my life, I was just merely putting out into words the thoughts that were swirling in my mind in the last hour as I was going through my old photo album. I know I'm SUPER LUCKY to have my health. My body is intact, I do not have cancer, I am not missing any limbs, and I realize that others may not be so fortunate. I know all this. I'm more blessed than I feel I deserve sometimes. So by no means am I saying that my life sucks. Life is still far too short, in my opinion. Live it up!
Goddamn, she's breathtaking. Is it wrong that I have more girl crushes than guy crushes? It's always been that way, m'mm...

Sometimes I wonder if pretty girls like Ashley Sky have a single care in the world. But then I think to myself, we all got problems...some just don't show it as well as others. Can't hate on her, she's fuckin' gorgeous!!!

Super dark & blurry iPhone pic that my buddy secretly snapped out me, I had no idea. Otherwise, I woulda been more lady-like in my eating, lol. I swear!

Btw, not sure if you can tell...but my eyelashes are super long in this picture. I just want to thank Giang for introducing me to  MaximumLash. This serum is a miracle in a tube, I swear to God! I had been using Latisse in the prior months but it just gave me negative side effects, not worth the troubles. I hope to do a review on MaximumLash soon, so look out for that!

Hahaha, your girl was #punishing it at the Korean buffet today!Ya diggin' my Christmas holiday sweater? Hell yeah, I love this season because I get to use and abuse my endless supply of ugly sweaters.

I ended up studying (on and off...mostly "off" time) at the library for about 4 hours. I was getting so restless. I just can't sit still! I haven't studied in the longest time and so it felt kinda new to me today. I was doodling to try and focus my energy back to the task at hand.

That helped for, like, 3 minutes and I was back in la-la-land. So I just left the library to get my grub on. That worked wonders! Oh, by the way...back to my drawing of the skateboarding guy (it kinda cut off toward the bottom of the paper, aren't I the best picture-taker ever? Lol). I was thinking of my ex today and he was literally, like, one of the FIRST guys I ever fell madly, head-over-heels for. I just randomly decided to Google him and guess what? Homeboy has been in Thrasher magazine countless time. How fuckin' sick is that? Found out he's skateboarding for Birdhouse on tour, as well. Damn. I knew him back waay when...and now Tony Hawk is his boss (btw, I don't like Tony Hawk...hate him) I still have my skateboard from when I was in high school. I can't believe what a tomboy I used to be, I kinda miss those days of messing around on the board. My mom would be so pissed because I'd come back with scrapes and bruises everywhere. She really wished for a proper "lady-like" daughter, sorry moms! *sheepish grin

I can't believe how far along I've come since my childhood. I used to be the most emo, whiny little brat ever. Ugh. I kinda want to make a time machine to go back in time and punch myself in the face to snap out of the funk. Life is faaaar too short! Don't let shit bother you! Breathe in, exhale out all the doubts and insecurities you may have about yourself or your future. Just know that everything has a funny way of working itself out. Things happen the way they are supposed to. No amount of worrying or bitchin' will change that. So might as well live it up! Enjoy life for what it's worth. And that, my friends, is my PSA for the day. (*_*)

I'm soooooo fuckin' beat right now. I've been running on 3 to 4 hours of sleep every night. Work this week has been kinda stressful. I have a Hematologics test coming up next Tuesday, and I"m a bit worked up over it because I'm having difficulty remembering all of the details involved. Plus, I got sick from some Peruvian girl. And the sad part is that I wash my hands every other hour! I eat healthy (for the most part, ha!) and I work out at the gym 3-5 times a week. Wtf? What about all of the years that I just ate junk food and didn't even lift a single finger (#coachpotato #dontjudge)? I never got sick a single day! Not a single day! Talk about the irony of life...

Soo, tomorrow--I definitely plan to hit up the library and just study my ass off. Wish me luck. But I decided to just take it easy tonight, since I have a cold and all. Right after work, I jetted off home and now I'm at my brother's new place he just moved into. Our cable is cut at my house (I didn't need any more distractions or reasons NOT to study. But nevermind that, I still find ways to be distracted enough not to hit the books). He has more than basic cable so I'm in Heaven right now. That's definitely one of my weaknesses! I love to watch television. I know, they say that watching t.v. rots your brain...but I'm addicted for sure. My guiltiest pleasure is watching Toddlers and Tiara on TLC. Love those little girls! I know some ppl think it's sick for little girls to be so "grown" and decked out in makeup but I think that every parent is entitled to how they raise their kids. It's a good and bad thing, I suppose. But so long as the parent is not pushing their child to participate in an activity in which the kid doesn't want to, then it's fine. Damn stage moms are crayyyy.

So cute! Little 4-year old Hallee won the competition. They look like little, itty bitty Barbie dolls. <3

For sure, I'm gonna have to "fake it 'til I make it" for the next couple of days. Feelin' like crap, so I gotta have sunshine and rainbows and unicorns -kinda thoughts to get me over this hump. For starters,  just went to the local Chinese eatery tonight and stuffed my face silly with Thai Basil Fried Rice (but wait! I know what you're thinkin'...ain't this a Chinese joint?!) #brownpaperbag over my face needed right about now....all that damn MSG shit. I'm gonna be a whale tomorrow! Shamu ain't got nothin' on me. ;D

In the meantime, I am back on my TLC shit. Next up is Say Yes to the Dress. Love that show. Can you tell what's on my mind? Babies and wedding dresses, lol.

Anyway, interesting case...these two are lesbians (and one of the girls is Asian! I've never met or heard of an Asian lesbian before) but are madly in love. I 100% support gays and lesbians.

I have a bunch of friends who are and they are just about the damn sweetest and nicest ppl you'll ever meet (and no, they're not flamboyant or any of those other stereotypes associated with this lifestyle. They're just real ppl like you and I). And Randy is hilarious as hell!

Have a wonderful weekend, all! I would like to leave you with the following that cracked me up so hard, I choked on my spit hahahahahaha

[edit] I was supposed to post this yesterday but I fell asleep...damn, I'm gettin' old as hell, ha.

Damn, I had a gooooooood time last night! It was beautiful weather, too (hey, I consider a breezy 50's considerably warm weather at this time of the year). I didn't bother wearing a coat (although I kinda regretted it later that night as I was walking around at 3 in the morning, it started getting COLD then. Go figure!) Went to TABAQ in D.C. for the birthday bash. Birthday girl was getting crunk!

Bestie and I below:

These was taken right before the lounge started to get crowded. It was sooooo HOT (humid) by the end of the night, I was dripping in sweat. It was kinda disgusting. People were grinding and bootypoppin', bumping into each other left and right. I had to elbow my way throughout most of the night. Definitely a buzzkill, since I get a bit claustrophobic.

I just love the birthday girl. She's just the sweetest girl you'll ever meet! She has great style, too. :)

And then the cakes came out! I didn't get to grab a bite since I'm still on my diet. (I haven't hit the gym for the past 4 days, it's really makin' me grouchy. But then again, holidays are the exception to my obsession. Right? Or am I just tryin' to justify?)

Oh, and I just had something funny to share. You ever been somewhere and there's always this one lone creeper who seem to come outta nowhere? Lol, I think I found Borat's cousin. He was hilarious! Nice dude but just full-on creeeepy.

By the end of the night, another one of my friend showed up. But my bestie and this friend are not on good terms right now, so it was kinda awkward. Like, it was obvious this girl was trying SO HARD to talk to us. I personally have nothing against her, but it's still weird since I consider myself incredibly loyal. I'm on bestie's side, regardless. And another one of the girls I was with was a SLOPPY DRUNK! She was spilling her drinks all over my legs and skirt. It annoyed the shit outta me, but what can you do? They had glass candles all over the mini-tables they had placed around the lounge and by the end of the night, you just heard *glassbreak glassbreak glassbreak* Ladies, handle your liquor with glass! It's not pretty sight to see all y'all walkin' around humpin' the wall for support and spilling drinks and knocking glass all over the floor. And not safe either! So we had to get my friend home. She was just a hot mess!

Oh, and remember how I told you how much I loved the L'Oreal SUBLIME BRONZER I had mentioned in my previous blog entry? I still love it! I just am bummed that it didn't show up on camera. I was tanner than I've been in a long time (w/out the use of a tanning bed), but still wasn't dark enough for it to show on the camera as I'd like. Oh well, I still 100% recommend it to any of you who are interested in a good self-tanner at an affordable price!

I hope everyone has an amazing rest of the weekend. I'm kinda ready to get back to work. Lounging around and eating and going out has taken a toll on my body. I'm ready to get back to the gym! :-)

Tan, tanned, and tanner

So I have an event to go to tomorrow for my friend's 24th birthday bash at a lounge in DC. And I don't like my complexion right now. I have no color. It's sickly-looking actually. So, I just wanted to share with you a life-saver I have recently discovered! It's the L'Oreal SUBLIME BRONZE Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion. I got mine on Walgreens website. But you can find it at your local drugstore? I just couldn't seem to find any self-tanners right now in my area. They don't really stock up on sun or summer-related items, since it's colder weather now.

 PROS: -Cheap!
-Gives you color instantly! It develops overnight and when you wake up, you look like you just
took a vacation to St. Tropez!
-Does not give you the streaky, Tony the Tiger effect

CONS: *I couldn't find the "DEEP" shade. I got it in "Medium Natural Tan", instead. I typically like to go
                     for the darkest shade possible
*The smell might be off for some ppl. It doesn't smell any more different than other self-tanners, it
just depends on how sensitive your nose is, I suppose.

I'm obsessed with this lotion now. It's so easy to put on and the smell reminds me of my youth that I spent at the tanning salons (so bad, I know!) The only negative thing I can say about this product is the intense micro-glitters that are in it, but it disappears when I wake up the next day. I normally put this on at night with latex gloves (I don't like getting the orange, tell-tale sign that I have fake n' baked, lol). I put the tanner lotion on first, rub it in real good, and then I put some Vaseline Moisturizing Lotion right over that. Best results I have ever gotten! Even better than that damn $30 SUN Laboratories Dark SunSation Lotion that all those YouTube beauty gurus were tryna push this past summer. Such a big waste of my $$! This shit STREAKED SO BADLY, I was actually embarrassed when I went out in public because the natural lighting accentuated how bad the self-tanner was.

So in the end, I have come to the conclusion that just because something costs more doesn't mean that it will perform better than its drugstore counterpart! Don't even bother with the SUN Laboratories products. So just save your money and get the L'Oreal tanning lotion instead. It's less than $11! :-)

Hope everybody has a GREAT weekend, because I know I plan to tomorrow night! If you see a tanned girl in a green miniskirt doing the Dougie, come say "Hi" to me!! ;D

Damn, I knew I shouldn't have gone onto NastyGal's site. I really want this dress now! *smacks self in the face* Snap outta it, Sophie!!!

I want so bad...but can I justify paying that for a dress I will only wear once? Maybe.................
